Definition
Ìjẹgbárun ni pípàdánù dúkìá ẹni sọ́wọ́ àwọn ayánilówó látàrí àwọn gbèsè tí a kò san. (Bankruptcy is the state of losing property to one’s creditors due to unpaid depts.)
Formation
Ìjẹgbárun = ìjẹ + igbá + run. Igbá jẹ́ dúkìá tàbí ọjà ẹni.
Usage Examples
- Ìjẹgbárun pa ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ àtijẹ̀bi rẹ̀ rẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n ó pàdánù ilé rẹ̀. Bankruptcy wiped out most of his liabilities, but he lost his house.
- Ó rí ìjẹgbárun gẹ́gẹ́ bí ibùsádi ìgbẹ̀yìn láti mórí bọ́ lọ́wọ́ àwọn àjẹẹ́lẹ̀ owó ìtọ́jú. She saw bankruptcy as a last resort to escape medical bills.
